Basement Waterproofing Cost in Victoria: What to Expect

5 min read

A wet basement is fixable, and the cost depends far more on the method than most people expect. Here is how basement waterproofing pricing works in Victoria.

It comes down to interior vs exterior

There are two broad ways to keep water out of a Victoria basement, and they sit at very different price points. Interior systems manage water once it reaches the footing and pump it away. Exterior systems keep water out of the wall in the first place by excavating and membraning the outside. Neither is automatically "better" — the right one depends on how the water is getting in and what you are protecting.

Interior waterproofing cost

An interior perimeter drainage system — a channel at the footing that collects water and sends it to a sump pump — commonly runs in the mid four figures to low five figures in the Victoria area. It is less disruptive, does not require digging up your yard, and is the right call for many homes. Cost scales mostly with the linear footage of wall treated and whether a sump and discharge line are part of the work.

Exterior waterproofing cost

Exterior work means excavating down to the footing, cleaning and membraning the foundation, and usually replacing the perimeter drain while everything is open. It is the more complete fix and the more expensive one — a five-figure job on most homes — because of the excavation. It scales with the length of wall dug out, the depth of the foundation, and how much landscaping or hardscaping has to be worked around.

Which one do you need?

That is the question an on-site inspection answers. We find where the water is actually coming from — the walls, the floor-wall joint, cracks, or over the top of the foundation — and match the method to it. Sometimes interior drainage is plenty; sometimes only exterior work will solve it. We will tell you honestly which one your home needs and what it will cost. Send us the details of what you are seeing and we will book a look.

Requires an on-site inspection. This page is general guidance, not a structural-engineering assessment. Every foundation is different — crack severity, settlement, and the right repair method can only be confirmed by an on-site inspection. Send us a few details and we will book one.
